Roll practice #1

The first indoors roll training session for the season. We have a local swimming hall where we can practice every Monday evening while the personell are cleaning the premises. Thanks to all nice persons working at Rådahallen!

This Monday evening I'm there with Anders and Kajsa to improve or rolls and try to master new ones. I have tried to make a storm-roll before without success. But with some help from a video (This is the Roll) I can now do it. Not very good yet but I'm on my way.

No photos this time a I was too busy to take any but I ave a small video.

Busy times ahaed

Yesterday was another day training indoors with rolling the kayak. Again I was in Lidköping and trying to teach some eager kayakers how to roll. One managed to do a roll and two was very close.

Here is a small video clip that my friend (and one of the organizers) Magnus has made. And I missed a roll! I tried to do a butterfly roll with a kayak I have never been in before and a paddle I have never used before. Bad excuses I know, but to my defense I did four butterfly rolls afterward in my own kayak. It almost never happens anymore that I miss a roll.

I will on Tuesday meet the organizers of Hunneberg Outdoors Exhibition to get some information about me representing Crossing Latitudes (and NOLS/WMI). That exhibition is at 9-10 of April.

On Wednesday a local radio station will interview me about my trip to Alaska this summer. It will be broadcasted at about 09:30 (local) on Wednesday on P4 Väst

Then on Thursday it's time to go to Stockholm for Vildmarksmässan and help Lena Conlan at Crossing Latitudes in our both at that exhibition. Here is a link to last year's fair.

I hope I have time to squeeze in some kayaking between al these activities and my piloting also.

Training

A very busy week working. Not so much time for kayaking but I started the week with a day training rescue with the pilot boat. The crew on the boat needs to practice to pick us pilots up from the water if we fall in. I was in my kayak taking photos and then beeing "rescued" by the crew. With my dry suit I could stay a bit longer in the water then my colleagues.

Then on sunday it was very nice weather although a bit windy. I started at Nordkroken in Vargön and paddled around Halleberg to Gardesanna. Three nice hours in my Anas Acuta.  I also tried to do some rolls in the surf. I went better than expected and I found out that the butterfly roll was better to do then the standard sweep-roll.
